VERTIGO

Vertigo is a sensation of feeling off balance. If you have these dizzy spells, you might feel like you are spinning or that the world around you is spinning. Feel like you’re spinning? You might have vertigo.
Vertigo can be caused by many things including ear infections, migraines, and even anxiety disorders. The good news is that there are several treatment options available to help reduce your symptoms and get back on track with your life.

VERTIGO SYMPTOMS

Vertigo can make you feel like you’re being pulled in one direction or spinning. Vertigo is also accompanied by symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, headache and hearing loss.

If you are experiencing one or more of these symptoms, it would be best for you to seek medical help. Here at PA Center, we have a team of competent and friendly audiologists to help assess and manage tinnitus symptoms or hearing loss brought on by vertigo.

VERTIGO CAUSES AND TRIGGERS

Inner ear problems

The most common cause of vertigo is benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). This happens when canaliths get dislodged from their original position and settle in the inner ear. These particles can be easily removed with a simple procedure called Epley maneuver or Canalith Repositioning Maneuver (CRP).

Meniere's Disease

Meniere’s disease, also known as tinnitus, can affect the pressure of your ears and cause vertigo. It is linked to ringing in the ears and hearing loss.

Labyrinthitis

Vestibular neuritis is a common condition that occurs when the vestibular nerve gets inflamed. The inner ear has two vestibular nerves, which send essential information to your brain on balance control and spatial navigation. If one or both of these are inflamed by a virus, labyrinthitis can occur resulting in dizziness, nausea and more. Other less common causes of vertigo include: migraine, neck or head injury, brain problems/tumor, stroke, specific drugs or medication that may trigger ear damage

VERTIGO TREATMENT

Vertigo is an ailment that can be caused by many different factors. Healthcare professionals may need to do more thorough evaluation before determining what the cause of vertigo might be. It’s important to remember that treatment will depend on the main trigger or causes of a person’s vertigo.

Vertigo is a medical illness that can be caused by many factors, such as medications, ear infections, vitamin deficiencies and more. The dizziness is usually too severe to ignore because it could lead to falls and injury. Severe cases of vertigo may necessitate treatments such as medication, surgery or rehabilitation therapy.

Vestibular rehabilitation may also be required in order to improve balance and orientation skills as well as reduce nausea symptoms associated with dizziness. Canalith repositioning maneuvers are often used to treat vertigo due to benign positional vertigo (BPVD), especially when accompanied by tinnitus; this treatment involves moving the head from side-to-side until it stops spinning so you can function again more normally during daily activities without fear of getting lightheadedness when standing up too quickly.
